Blame Miller (and Co.).
Here is Sue-Ann Levy's latest column on Toronto's municipal well-being.
She itemizes a lot of major projects and generous labour settlements as to their ongoing costs. Yet when I look around within just a neighbourhood circle, there sure was a ton of needless upgrading made. And I don't believe that very many of these things were true upgrades at all! Just being fancy doesn't equal "better or improved".
I rent. I went to college and continued career training courses. By neccessity, I don't own a car. I don't have security in employment, pension, or medical plan. I WOULD LOVE to learn what percentage of Toronto Employees; cops, teachers, parks workers, TTC staff, indoor workers, etc. rent their places of residence! Probably there is an underclass of non-unionized staff in local government offices just etching out their own livlihoods? Maybe a majority of this union /management underling class actually lives inside of the city of Toronto. But is it only due to having one part-time job paying like a comparable full-time salary in the private sector?
Please go ahead... tell me how you are just getting by, gosh darn it. Blame everyone else who is living worse off than yourself.
