Toronto's mayor Rob Ford, along with his first-term councillor brother Doug, has taken a public pledge of losing weight.

Dear Mayor Ford:
Best wishes. Take it easy, yet seriously. Remember that adding muscle will add weight since it is heavier than their replaced fat cells - but can assist with calorie burning metabolism. Walking is the best exercise (IMHO)! Please use caution if/when you choose to involve treadmill jogging. No one, not even regular weekend runners, can "run a marathon or a 10K" within their first few months. Best to use a walk / jog / walk routine. Then progress at YOUR OWN pace.
Exercices like bicycling are easier on the knees, yet won't provide the same immediate results, as being upright and unassisted. A charity fun run /walk in the Fall would be a worthy goal to pursue.
