Steeltown AHL Alumni Classic stolen.
There are a few marquee sporting events that I crave for. The Superbowl, the Indy 500, the Queen's Plate, The MLB all-star game, and... Hockey Alumni and/or Outdoor games.
Right now, Rogers Sportsnet is cable casting the regular (Pepsico) AHL Outdoor game from Hamilton, Ont. The home team is a representative of the Montreal Canadiens franchise; the visitors are the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise.
Last night, and not televised, was their alumni outdoor game! Here are the early line-ups. The CBC's Ron McLean joined the referee squad. What is available are just pictures of the AHL's Hamilton Outdoor Alumni game.
Sure there is an ordinary NHL league game at the ACC tonight between Toronto and Montreal. And it will air, as expected, on the CBC's Saturday HNIC broadcast. Yet big deal, they play against each other eight times a season - including the Leafs home opener for 2011/2012.
The CBC has featured AHL games, from Hamilton, before. Rogers Sportsnet is a full-fledged sports network with its own pro hockey interests. Rogers also owns three OTA broadcasters in Toronto; CityTV, Omni1, and Omni2.
Like the annual Grey Cup on TSN - I didn't get a chance to see last night's Alumni Game. Yet neither did cable /satellite system subscribers!
Toronto.
Montreal.
Alumni players.
In Hamilton.
Outdoor - first AHL version played in Canada.
Ivor Wynne Stadium.
.. and seriously, this wasn't televised during Friday night (and on a broadcast channel at that)?

p.s. The Alumni 'buds held on for a 6-5 win.
