    Unplugged.

    Are the lights on?
For both today and yesterday, I had left unplugged my electronic equipment (TV, PC, Microwave) given this week's 3-day heatwave.  I can remember the '03 blackout.  Not that it was to blame - there have been other power outages - but within about a year's time my aging VCR, former Microwave, and an Answering Machine all died.
The stereo?  Who cares, that stayed plugged in, lol.  Then, with today's sudden lightning storm I gave it all another hour as unplugged.
Sure there's probably a number of redundant safe guards in place.  Yet only 5 or 6 years ago a few local dogs were getting electrocuted while stepping onto sidewalk hydro covers.  Toronto Hydro workers and management earned themselves some good overtime pay as they didn't wait out that winter before starting to replace innumerable old metal plate covers.
In comparative news - New York City, also under a heat wave today, did experience a few electricity 'brown outs' today.
